The Insta360 Nano can live-stream VR 360 video to Facebook, YouTube and WeChat – for $199.00!?!?
On July 30th China-based Shenzhen Arashi Vision Co. is set to release their second 360 camera, the Insta360 Nano. For $199.00 you’ll get a spherical camera capable of capturing 3k 360 video and when paired with an iPhone 6 (or 6 Plus, 6s, or 62 Plus), users can live-stream to Facebook, WeChat and YouTube.
The Nano isn’t the first Insta360 camera. The 4k version, Insta360 4k, was released several months ago with less than stellar reviews. Users reported audio issues and lack of support in English, all at a hefty price of $599.00. The Insta360 Nano hopes to set things straight, and by the looks of it Arashi Vision Co. could have a winner.
At $199, the Insta360 Nano will undercut the Ricoh Theta S by about $150.00 (as well as the yet to be released Samsung Gear 360). Given it’s specs, that’s a big deal. The Theta S set the bar for consumers with its relatively low price point ($350) boasting features desired by consumers.
The Insta360 Nano’s specs and features decidedly outshine the Theta S, and if it can perform the bar will be set pretty high.
This nifty little camera has an integrated Lighting Connector that allows iPhone users to instantly share videos and live stream to Facebook and WeChat. Don’t have an iPhone, not a problem. If you’re not one to live-stream or post a video on the go, the Nano can be used as a stand-alone 360 camera with their Panoramic Video player available for Android, iOS, Windows, and MAC OSX – but you’ll need a MicroSD card (not supplied).
The raw files can be edited in Adobe Premiere and After Effects. Documentation is sparse on Arashi Vision’s website, nevertheless check out the specs:

Below are some sample videos. I’m not overly impressed, but for $199 why not?
At $199 will you pick one up? Or are you waiting on some first impressions?
