Updated April 22, 2016: South Korean Pre-orders sold out in minutes after demand crashes site.

Samsung announced the Gear 360 this past February at the Mobile World Conference (MWC) in Barcelona. Until this past week, the price of the device was a mystery. It appears that a 3rd party retailer (B&H) accidentally posted the Gear 360 as “Coming Soon” for $349.99 – they have since removed the price.

The South Korean company has targeted this summer (2016) for their official launch and hopes to capture the consumer market with this relatively low-priced and feature-rich spherical camera. Built to work with the latest generation of the Galaxy series smartphones (not required), it dons dual F2.0 fisheye lenses featuring CMOS 15MP Sensors that captures 360-degree videos in 3840×1920 pixels (not quite 4k, but close) and still images as high as 30 megapixels.

At $349.99 Samsung will be competing with the similarly priced Ricoh Theta S, which offers live streaming – something we would speculate that Samsung is looking to add to the 360’s resumé. Nevertheless, this camera is well designed and feature-rich (sans live streaming) and most of all affordable.
